4 Tips for Using Your Heat Pump More Efficiently
The summer heat regularly approaches 100 degrees in Conroe, TX, requiring your heat pump to work efficiently for your comfort. Read on for tips to make your heat pump more efficient and last longer.
Use the Highest Fan Setting
Heat pumps operate most efficiently at the highest fan setting. So, if you’re comfortable with the highest fan setting, leave it there when the system is running. Also, set the fan to “Auto” so that your system doesn’t run constantly.
Pick an Energy-Efficient Temperature
The most efficient setting for the indoor temperature is the highest point at which you’re comfortable, which is 78 degrees for many people. It’s OK to run the heat pump at a lower temperature periodically, but for the bulk of its running time, try to stick with the 78 degrees. Remember, each degree higher that you set your heat pump’s thermostat will both reduce the wear and tear on the system and lower your energy footprint and bill between 3% and 5%.
Replace the Heat Pump’s Dirty Filter
Dirty air filters restrict the airflow through the whole system. This results in lower air pressure within the system, which can cause both excessive condensation and freezing of the coil. All of those results contribute to operational inefficiency, so replace the filter every 30-90 days as needed.
Schedule Regular Heat Pump Maintenance
The hotter the weather, the more maintenance your system will need throughout the summer. Once a year is usually enough. But during a summer with temperatures approaching and exceeding 100 degrees, it’s a good idea to have someone look at your heat pump twice yearly. Extreme heat causes the heat pump to work less efficiently and harder than it normally does.
